As of October, 2025, the King County Flood Control District approved another grant (this one for $.889 Million) to Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) for the construction of the Headwaters Project! A huge THANK YOU to the King County Council, especially D2 Council Member Girmay Zahilay, for approving this grant. SPR is the primary landowner of this project and has now secured more tham $2M from King County Flood Control District.
Also, Thank You to Washington State, via the Department of Ecology, for an additional $220K Water Quality grant to Seattle Parks and Recreation in 2025 to help finish the last of the design details.
Additional Thanks to the Arboretum Foundation, the Aldarra Foundation, the Chabot Family Fund, Dick Eitel, the Japanese Garden Society, Rick and Anne Matsen, the Seattle Parks Foundation, the Peach Foundation and to the many dozens of additional individuals who have donated time, money and hard work to this creek restoration effort.
SPR, with continued support from Friends of Arboretum Creek, has also applied for additional funding via another Water Quality grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology. We will learn more in 2026. If all the financing lines up construction will begin in 2027.
